Biography

Mathieu Baudin, is a CNRS research engineer, sharing his position between two magnetic resonance laboratories at Université de Paris and École Normale Supérieure. He graduated in 2011 from his engineering diploma from École Centrale Marseille, and from his Master’s degree in chemistry (with a specialty in analytical chemistry) from Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III (now Aix-Marseille Université). He performed his Master’s degree thesis with Prof. Thomas Meersmann (University of Nottingham, U.K.) on hyperpolarization of noble gases via optical pumping for translational medical imaging.

He then obtained his PhD in indsutrial engineering from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Métiers, after working on his thesis at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) from 2011 to 2014. His topic of studies was the optimization of intervention planning and scheduling in radioactive environments. This PhD work of three years was followed by one additional year at CERN as a radiation protection physicist in particle accelerator facilities.

In September 2015, he joined back the NMR community within Prof. Geoffrey Bodenhausen’s groups, first at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland) and then at the École Normale Supérieure. There, he specialized in dissolution Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (D-DNP), in particular in the development of new instrumentation and methods. His expertise includes the optimization of the DNP sample and cross polarization sequences, development and operation of state of the art “cryogen-consumption-free” polarizers as well as several applications of D-DNP, among which the study of cell metabolism.

In January 2019, he was appointed as a research engineer with the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique). He now shares his time between two laboratories on a joint instrumental  platform dedicated to D-DNP:
