Located in the heart of Paris at the Centre Universitaire des Saints Pères of the University Paris Descartes, the laboratory of Chemistry and Biochemistry (LCPBT) is a CNRS-Paris Descartes joint research unit conducting research at the interface between chemistry and life sciences. The research activity of the Lab is devoted to fundamental research. It relies on one side on the study of biological mechanisms at the molecular or supramolecular level (metabolism, chemical mediation, signalization pathways) and their involvement in physiological or pathological regulations. It relies on the other side on the study of fundamental molecular, supramolecular and surface reactivity and the development of molecular tools (probes, markers, sensors) to decipher biochemical mechanisms or identify/characterize/interact with new therapeutic targets. The different teams of the unit have a recognized know-how ranging from organic and inorganic chemistry to systems biology, through bio-organic, bio-inorganic and physical chemistry (vibrational an electronic spectroscopies, NMR, EPR), pharmacochemistry, toxicology and immunology.
Our laboratory’s facilities include all the necessary equipment to perform up-to-date research (glove-boxes, 500 MHz NMR apparatus with one of them equipped with a cryoprobe, DNP NMR, UPLC-HRMS, UV, IR and Raman spectrometers, L and X-band EPR apparatus, Molecular modeling, L2 laboratory…), some of them being shared with the Biomedtech Service Unit. We also are an active member of the French Chemical Library consortium, with more than 4000 original in-house compounds.
Beside their research activity, members of the unit are strongly involved in teaching chemistry and biochemistry at the graduate, master and PhD level.
